
Bulls Can't Stop Duncans, Lose 7-4

Durham, NC - Eric Duncan hit the game-winning three-run home run in the fifth inning and Shelley Duncan put the game out of reach with a two-run home run in the seventh inning as the Bulls fell to the Yankees 7-4, on Wednesday afternoon at the Durham Bulls Athletic Park.
The Bulls entered the fifth inning with a 3-2 lead, but starter RHP Jae Kuk Ryu (1-1) got into trouble as Kevin Reese reached base on a throwing error by Elliot Johnson and Jamal Strong walked. Ryu was relieved by RHP Richard De Los Santos, but Eric Duncan sent the first pitch he saw into the right field seats to give the Yankees a 5-3 lead. De Los Santos pitched the next four innings, allowing a total of three runs on four hits with no walks and three strikeouts, including Shelley Duncan's seventh inning home run. Ryu took the loss though, pitching four innings and giving up four runs (three earned), five hits and two walks with five strikeouts.
The Yankees got on the scoreboard in the first inning with RBI singles from Shelley Duncan and Angel Chavez, giving the Yankees a 2-0 lead, but the Bulls battled back to tie the game at two in the third inning with a pair of sacrifice flies from Justin Ruggiano and Wes Bankston. Jeremy Owens added an RBI single in the fourth inning to give the Bulls the 3-2 lead that was eventually lost. Ben Zobrist hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to make the score 7-4.
RHP Steven White (1-1) earned the win with five innings of work, giving up three runs n four hits and four walks with two strikeouts. RHP Jim Brower earned his twelfth save of the season as he retired the side on just five pitches in the bottom of the ninth inning. The Duncans combined to go 5-9 with 6 RBI.
