Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp News Release
Montgomery, Ala. - Desmond Jennings went two-for five with a homerun and three RBI, and also scored the game-winning run in the ninth inning leading the Montgomery Biscuits (7-11) to a 6-5 win over the Jacksonville Suns (11-7) in front of 1,729 Monday night at Riverwalk Stadium.
Montgomery reliever Neil Frontz (1-0), a native of Jacksonville, picked up the victory after allowing the game-tying run in the top of the ninth inning. Biscuits starter Heath Rollins allowed two earned runs over six innings and did not factor in the decision.
Suns reliever Chris Leroux (1-1) picked up the loss, allowing the game-ending run in the bottom of the ninth inning on an infield hit from Rashad Eldridge. Suns starter Willie Glen allowed three earned runs and six hits over six innings, but did not factor in the decision.
Jacksonville opened the scoring in the first inning, scoring on an Andy Jenkins single and a two-out error from Montgomery shortstop Brandon Chaves for a 2-0 lead.
Montgomery jumped ahead in the second inning as Desmond Jennings belted a three-run homerun to left field off Suns starter Willie Glen for a 3-2 lead.
The Suns tied the game in the third inning on a groundout from Kevin Randel, driving in Scott Cousins for a 3-3 score.
Jacksonville took the lead in the seventh inning against Jason Isringhausen, in Montgomery on a rehabilitation assignment. Bryan Peterson tripled over the first base bag with one out and later scored on a Scott Cousins sacrifice fly for a 4-3 lead.
The Biscuits took the lead back in the eighth inning, loading the bases against reliever Carlos Vasquez. Kasey Olenberger entered from the bullpen and induced a pop out and a force play at home, but a two-out walk tied the game 4-4. Olenberger later dealt a wild pitch that scored Rashad Eldridge for a 5-4 Montgomery lead.
Jacksonville tied the game in the top of the ninth off Neil Frontz with back-to-back two-out doubles from Lee Mitchell and Kevin Randel for a 5-5 score.
In the bottom of the ninth inning, Montgomery won the game as Desmond Jennings scored from second base on an infield hit from Eldridge to the second baseman. Jennings' slide beat second baseman Chris de la Cruz's throw and catcher Brad Davis' tag for the game-ending run.
Suns LH Aaron Thompson will face Biscuits LH Ryan Morse in game four of the series Tuesday at 11:35 a.m. ET at Riverwalk Stadium. Live broadcast coverage is available online at milb.com, with a tape delay broadcast airing at 7:00 p.m. on WFXJ-AM 930 in Jacksonville.
