Mobile BayBears News Release

MOBILE, Ala. - It didn't take long for the Arizona Diamondbacks' top minor league prospect, Jarrod Parker, to receive a call-up to the Double-A Mobile BayBears.

After just four starts with Single-A Visalia in the California League, Parker's next trip to the mound will be as a BayBear on Saturday night in Jacksonville. Parker is making his way to Mobile on Tuesday but won't be officially on the club's roster until prior to Saturday's contest.

Parker, 20, is a native of Norwell, Indiana where he was drafted out of high school in the first round of the 2007 MLB First-Year Player Draft by the D-backs. Parker wasted no time impressing the Diamondbacks last season which was his first in pro ball as he put up a 12-5 record at Single-A South Bend. He walked just 33 batters while fanning 117 in 118 innings. On top of that, he surrendered just eight home runs while holding opponents to a stifling .251 average.

Parker is known for a mid-90s fastball that has been to known to reach 98 mph on the radar gun with a power breaking ball that sits in the upper 80s. He dazzled during his brief stay in the California League by going 1-0 with a 0.95 ERA in 19 innings, striking out 21 while walking just four.

He is expected to make two starts on the road at Jacksonville and Carolina before his Hank Aaron Stadium debut during the series against Montgomery on May 11-15.
