Jaxx win 6-5 on passed ball in ninth

Jackson, Tenn. (April 27, 2009) - The Diamond Jaxx (8-10) jump out to an early lead and hang on Monday night to beat the Mississippi Braves (9-9), 6-5 at Pringles Park.

The Jaxx scored four runs in the fourth inning. Ezequiel Carrera was hit by a pitch to start the inning and Oswaldo Navarro reached base on a walk, putting two on with no one out. Jaxx catcher, Adam Moore drove a double to left scoring Carrera from second giving the Jaxx a 1-0 lead. The next batter, Greg Halman, hit a three-run towering homer over the wall in left to give West Tenn a 4-0 lead after four.

Mississippi began their comeback in the fifth inning plating three runs. The first scored on a wild pitch by starter Kyle Parker, and the other on a two-RBI base hit off the bat of Greg Creek.

Parker went five innings for the Jaxx, allowing three runs on six hits. He struck out six and walked two hitters.

Kody Kirkland tied the game in the sixth inning, blasting his second homerun of the season off of Jaxx reliever Mumba Rivera. The game was tied after six innings at four.

In the bottom of the eighth inning, Johan Limonta led the inning off with a triple that was scorched to the right-center gap. Limonta scored on a passed ball by catcher Phillip Britton. The Jaxx took a 5-4 lead into the ninth.

Josh Fields came on in the ninth, looking for his second save of the series, and of the year but ran into trouble. Travis Jones led off the ninth with a single to left, and was advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Phillip Britton. Leadoff man for the Braves, Gorkys Hernandez picked up his first hit of the game, scoring Jones from second base, tying the game at five.

The newest Diamond Jaxx outfielder, Mel Stocker reached base on a walk to start the bottom of the ninth. He advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ezequiel Carrera and to third on a fly out to right by Navarro. The Braves righthander, Jeff Lyman gave Adam Moore the intentional pass to bring up Greg Halman. With Halman at the plate, Braves catcher, Phillip Britton could not handle the pitch from Lyman and Stocker scored from third on the passed ball. It was the first last at bat win of the season for the Diamond Jaxx.

Josh Fields (1-0) blew the save, but picks up his first win and Jeff Lyman (1-1) takes the loss for the Braves.

Game four of the series is on Tuesday night at 7:05. RHP Luis Munoz (1-1, 3.94) starts for the Diamond Jaxx. The Braves will send out RHP Kyle Cofield (1-0, 2.81)
