Montgomery Biscuits News Release
MONTGOMERY, Ala. - After watching a six-run lead evaporate, the Biscuits (35-30) scored twice in the top of the ninth to beat the Huntsville Stars (33-34) 9-7 Thursday at Joe Davis Stadium.
With the bases loaded and one out in the top of the ninth, Mark Thomas finished a tough at-bat with a fielder's choice grounder to score Mike Sheridan from third, and an errant throw to first on the attempted double play turn allowed Greg Sexton to score as well.
A five-run fifth inning keyed by a two-run Omar Luna single gave the Biscuits a 5-1 lead, and a Brett Nommensen two-run double in the seventh widened the gap to 7-1. But a pair of two-run homers against Neil Schenk in the bottom of the seventh made it 7-5, and the Stars finished the comeback with two runs against Adam Liberatore in the eighth.
Frank De Los Santos (4-1) got the final out of the eighth before eeking his way out of the ninth to get the win. After a walk and a single to begin the frame, Scooter Gennett lined into a double play, and Hunter Morris flied out to the wall to end a game that lasted 3:46, falling four minutes shy of equalling the longest nine-inning game in Biscuits history.
Alex Colome went five innings and allowed just one run in the no-decision.
The Biscuits had five players record two hits in a 13-hit outburst.
Lefty Kyle Lobstein will start for the Biscuits on Friday against Huntsville righty Jimmy Nelson. First pitch is set for 6:43.
