Montgomery Biscuits News Release

KODAK Tenn. -- The Montgomery Biscuits (27-17; 62-52) had a little more offense than the Tennessee Smokies (22-22; 58-54) at Smokies Park Sunday night, defeating the home team, 11-8 and winning their third consecutive game.

The Biscuits' sixth win in their last seven games moved them to within two games of the Jacksonville Suns in the South Division.

The game featured six home runs and 27 hits. Montgomery never trailed, but a resilient Tennessee team didn't make it easy for the Biscuits.

The decisive inning was the seventh, in which Montgomery's John Jaso singled in a run and a Patrick Breen two-out double scored two. The runs broke a 7-7 tie and made a winner out of Richard De Los Santos, who had allowed a two-run single to Jemel Spearman the previous inning.

Biscuits leadoff man Fernando Perez set the tone for the slugfest on the game's first pitch, hitting a Ryan O'Malley fastball 420 feet over the center field wall. First baseman Rhyne Hughes also doubled in two in the inning and a Josh Arhart chopper into right field scored another.

Jaso hit a solo homer in the third and Ptrick Breen hit a two-run moonshot in the fourth before the Biscuits knocked O'Malley out. He had allowed seven runs in four innings.

Smokies hitters Nate Spears, Robinson Chirinos and Alan Rick each hit solo home runs, their second homers of the season.

Tony Peguero made his return to the Biscuits, throwing 4 1/3 innings and allowing four runs (two earned). The two unearned runs scored becuase of errors by Biscuits third baseman Aarn Sisk. The Texan committed three errors, including two on one play. He's made four errors in his three Biscuits games.

Dale Thayer entered to save his league-leading 21st game.

The Biscuits guaranteed themselves a win in this five-game series and assured themselves a winning roadtrip. The series finishes Monday night at 6:15 Central Time wih Montgomery lefty Jon Barratt on the mound. He'll face Cubs propect Jeff Samardzija, making his much-anticipated Double-A debut.
