Montgomery Biscuits News Release
JACKSONVILLE, Flo. - Dylan Lee's (0-1) untimely wild pitch scored Dalton Kelly from third and broke a scoreless tie in the ninth inning as the Biscuits (26-14) shutout the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp (14-27), 1-0, in the series opener on Thursday night at the Baseball Grounds. The Biscuits are now 11-1 over their last 12 games in Jacksonville.
Brendan McKay started for the Butter and Blue and turned out another impressive effort, going six scoreless innings and scattering just five hits to go along with no walks and six strikeouts in a no-decision. McKay's counterpart, Jacksonville's Jorge Guzman, kept pace, hurling six shutout innings of his own, while allowing just two hits, two walks, and 10 strikeouts.
The Biscuits had opportunities to break through with runners at second and third and two outs in third, as well as a runner at third and two outs in the fifth, but couldn't cash-in. Riley Ferrell and Jeff Kinley threw a scoreless inning each, and Benton Moss (2-0) retired all six batters he faced in relief of McKay in the seventh and eighth.
Lee would enter for the Jumbo Shrimp in the ninth, and after getting Robbie Tenerowicz to pop out to first, walked Kelly, who then moved to second on a Jesus Sanchez single. Tristan Gray would strike out in the next at-bat, but a wild pitch moved Sanchez to second and Kelly to third. That brought Lucius Fox to the plate, and that's when Lee uncorked his second wild pitch to score Kelly with the game's only run.
Curtis Taylor then closed things out in the ninth to remain perfect in six save opportunities, and handed Jacksonville their 12th shutout defeat of the season. The shutout win was the Biscuits' sixth.
The Biscuits will try to make it eight wins in nine games on Friday night when the bullpen takes on Cody Poteet (2-3) at 6:05 PM CT.
The Biscuits will return to Riverwalk Stadium to open up a five-game series against the Jackson Generals on Wednesday, May 22. The series will also feature Southern Rock Night featuring a T-Shirt Giveaway presented by Alfa Insurance on Thursday, May 23; Ladies Night presented by At Home and MAX Fireworks on Friday, May 24; Greenbow Night featuring a Bobblehead Giveaway presented by Capital Trailways and MAX Fireworks on Saturday, May 25; and Lil' Crumbs Dress Like a Player Snellzilla Pillow Giveaway on Sunday, May 26.
