LAS VEGAS - The Birmingham Squadron, NBA G League affiliate of the New Orleans Pelicans, dropped its second game of the 2022 AT&T NBA G League Winter Showcase, 111-100, at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on Thursday night.
In the first all-time meeting with Grand Rapids, Birmingham was led in scoring for the second straight contest by Kira Lewis, Jr.'s 19 points. Fellow starters Dereon Seabron (16) and Kelan Martin (13) and reserves Feron Hunt (12), James Kelly, Sr. (12) and Javonte Smart (11) also reached double-figure point totals.
Chasson Randle's 23 points in as many minutes off the bench paced Grand Rapids (5-13), while Jared Butler dropped in 22.
Birmingham never led in Thursday's game, while Grand Rapids had as large of an advantage as 19 points.
The Squadron complete the Showcase portion of the NBA G League season with a 6-12 mark and look forward to the regular season and its record-reset.
Birmingham returns to the court after the holiday break for a back-to-back at Legacy Arena at the BJCC against the Texas Legends Dec. 29-30 with both games tipping off at 7 p.m. Dec. 29's game will be televised on My68 WABM in Birmingham and nationally on ESPN Plus. Birmingham's game on Dec. 30 can be viewed locally on My68 and nationally on NBAGLeague.com and serves as the Squadron's "Super Hero Night" featuring a custom comic book giveaway.
