905 Comeback Effort Falls Short Against Mexico City

Raptors 905 (7-11), the NBA G League affiliate of the Toronto Raptors, were defeated by the Mexico City Capitanes (11-6) 110-124 Wednesday evening. Justin Champagnie led the 905 on assignment with 24 points, five rebounds, four assists, three steals, and a block. Mexico City was led by Mason Jones who put up 20 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists.

In the first international G League game, the two teams exchanged baskets in the opening 12 minutes with the Capitanes gaining the early 26-20 lead going into the second frame. The Capitanes took control of the second quarter as they outscored the 905 29-39, gaining the 16-point advantage going into the half.

The Capitanes continued to build off their momentum in the third quarter, outscoring the 905 34-22 behind a balanced scoring effort.

New at the NBA G League Winter Showcase, all games have an untimed fourth quarter with a target score end. The target score is the leading team's score at the end of the third quarter plus 25 points. The target score for this game was set at 124. Down 28, the 905 mounted their comeback bid as they opened the final frame on an 11-0 run. The 905 went on to outscore the Capitanes 39-25 but were unable to reach the target score.

The 905 saw complementary scoring from Ron Harper Jr.'s 24 points, three rebounds, two assists, and two blocks. The Capitanes were paced by Jahlil Okafor who added 15 points, seven rebounds, five assists, and two blocks in the victory.

The NBA G League opens its regular season on December 27th with all teams' records resetting. Raptors 905 plays their first regular season game on December 28th when the team travels to Iowa for a 7:00 pm meeting with the Wolves.
