
Birds' Ride Four-Run Seventh Inning to Pick up 8-3 Win in Grand Prairie

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX-The Sioux Falls Canaries (29-41) put together a big four-run seventh inning, highlighted by a David Bergin two-run homerun to defeat the Grand Prairie AirHogs (24-49) by the final score of 8-3 at Quick-Trip Park on Thursday night.
The Canaries took their third and final lead of the night in a nine at-bat top of the seventh inning. RJ Perucki led off the inning with a single, and later advanced to third on a Chris Grayson double down the right field line. Perucki scored the first run of the inning on a sac-fly before David Bergin extended the Canaries lead with a two-run homer over the left field wall, his 10th blast of the season. In all, the Birds' pieced together four runs in the inning, and one more in the eighth to secure the 8-3 win.
Starting pitcher Shawn Blackwell (2-7, 4.14 ERA) allowed three runs on seven hits over 5 2/3 inning, recording nine strikeouts, a new season high. The right-hander did not factor in the decision though, leaving the game in a 3-3 tie.
Relief pitcher James Jones (1-1, 4.21 ERA) ended up with the win after picking up a pair of strikeouts over his 1 1/3 innings of work.
Grayson had a big night for the Canaries, going 2-for-4 with two doubles, a walk, and two runs scored. Tyler Shover also had a good night at the plate, going 3-for-5 with a double.
Brian Humphries 13-game hitting streak was snapped on Wednesday night, but started a new streak on Thursday, going 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
With the win, the Canaries evened up the series at 1-1, and go for the series win on Friday night with LHP Miguel Pena (6-5, 2.74 ERA) toeing the rubber.

The Birds return to Sioux Falls Stadium on Saturday, August 8th to open up a three-game series against their I-29 rivals, the Sioux City Explorers at 6:05 PM.
