
Blasters Sweep Double Dip in Kansas City

Kansas City, KS-One night after being swept by the T-Bones in a doubleheader, Joplin returned the favor with wins of 5-2 and 6-2 over Kansas City Thursday night at Community America Ballpark.
Joplin (38-31) improved to 5-5 in doubleheader games this season. The Blasters also pulled within one game of wild-card leading Kansas City (38-29).
Joplin opened game one with a two-run scoring single in the first from Maikol Gonzalez. Jairo Perez added a two-out, two-run home run in the third for a 4-1 lead. It was Perez's third home run of the season. Jake Taylor smacked a solo home run in the sixth that just cleared the wall in the left field corner. It was Taylor's team-high tying 10th big fly of the season. On the mound, Nestor Molina posted the win. Molina (7-4) worked six innings and allowed two earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and no walks. Mike Nannini took the loss for Kansas City. Nannini (1-4) lasted six and gave up five earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts and one walk. Winston Abreu earned his 13th save with a 1-2-3 seventh for the Blasters.
In game two, Joplin broke a scoreless tie in the fourth. Oscar Mesa scored on a two-out single to left by Jairo Perez. The Blasters made it 4-0 with a three-run fifth. Mesa had an RBI single and Maikol Gonzalez drove in two more with a two-out single to center. Joplin led 6-0 when Adam Bailey homered to deep left in the sixth for Kansas City. The two-run shot was Bailey's ninth of the season. Mesa had a three-hit game for the Blasters. Jake Taylor also collected two hits. Newly acquired Reyes Dorado posted the win for Joplin. Dorado (1-0) threw five scoreless innings and scattered five hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Steve Sarcone suffered the loss for the T-Bones. Sarcone (0-2) went four-and-two-thirds and gave up four earned runs on five hits with two strikeouts and no walks.
Joplin closes out its five-game, three-day road series at Kansas City with a single game Friday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05. The Blasters have Saturday off before returning to the road with a two-game series at Wichita starting Sunday night.
