'Cats Drop Another Home Series as Fish Score Nine

Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

Gary, Ind. - After going four innings and not allowing a run in his first professional start, Gary SouthShore RailCats starter Chuck Fontana couldn't repeat his results, as the Winnipeg Goldeyes touched him up for five runs through his five innings pitched Friday at the U.S. Steel Yard.

The Goldeyes (33-37) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first on four straight hits to begin the contest, and the RailCats (32-38) answered with two in the second.

But every time the 'Cats tried to come back, the Fish had an answer. The teams traded runs in the third through the seventh before Winnipeg put the game out of reach with two runs in the ninth.

The Goldeyes' Josh Mazzola went 3-for-5 with three doubles and an RBI and the former RailCat, Ryan Babineau, roughed up his old squad, driving in two on a 2-for-5 night.

All four 'Cats pitchers surrendered runs on the night, as the bullpen again labored to keep Gary SouthShore in the game.

Travis Connolly, making his professional debut, went 0.2 innings, giving up a run on two hits and two walks.

The RailCats are now 1-4 in rubber games this season, and dropped their 10th series of the year with the loss.

The 'Cats stay at the U.S. Steel Yard for Saturday's contest against the Lincoln Saltdogs.

Midget wrestling will take place prior to the game at 6:10 p.m. and first pitch will take place directly after, at about 7:10 p.m.
