Memphis Redbirds News Release

Memphis, Tenn. - Memphis scored two runs in the first inning and two runs in the seventh and needed all four to withstand a ninth-inning rally from Round Rock as the Redbirds won 4-3 at AutoZone Park on Tuesday.

Anthony Reyes (5-1) pitched six scoreless innings in his return to Memphis, allowing just five hits and tallying nine strikeouts. Reliever Brad Thompson pitched two perfect innings of relief as the Redbirds carried a 4-0 lead into the ninth inning.

Brian Falkenborg allowed the first two Round Rock batters to reach to lead off the ninth and then surrendered a one-out, three-run homer to Jesse Garcia to bring the Express to within one run. Josh Kinney came on to retire the last two hitters and record his third save of the season.

Reid Gorecki and Mike Rose each doubled and scored in the first to give Memphis an early 2-0 advantage. Rico Washington walked to lead off the seventh and later scored on a Brian Esposito single. John Nelson scored what proved to be the winning run for Memphis on a Shawn Garrett single up the middle. Esposito was the only Redbird to record two hits on the night.

Memphis will welcome Nashville to town tomorrow night for the final home series of the season. The Redbirds will send Dennis Tankersley (4-13) to the hill opposite the Sounds left-hander Dana Eveland (4-4).
