Oklahoma City Comets News Release
The Iowa Cubs hit three home runs in the first four innings Monday and rode them to a 7-3 win over the RedHawks at Principal Park.
Michael Restovich's first inning, solo shot to left center off Derek Lee opened the scoring. Oklahoma tied the score on Anthony Webster's infield roller in the third, but Geovany Soto hit a two-run shot into the new right field bleachers in the bottom of the third to give Iowa the lead for good.
Jeff Deardorff added a solo shot in the fourth off Lee, who pitched five innings for the loss to drop to 5-11. In winning the first three games of the series, Iowa has hit six home runs and scored 24 runs after scoring 12 in their six games leading up to the series, all losses. Oklahoma has not led in the series and has been outscored in the first four innings 17-1, yet still has the best record in the PCL in August (14-6).
Oklahoma added two runs in the seventh on Aarom Baldiris' two-run double to make the score 4-3. Iowa countered with three runs in the eighth off reliever Kevin Walker.
Iowa starter Jerome Williams (4-6) tossed 6 1/3 innings, allowing three runs on nine hits for the win.
The Cubs (66-64) remain four games back of Nashville in the American North, while Oklahoma (67-63) falls to 10 back of Round Rock in the American South with 14 to play. Round Rock's magic number to clinch the division is five games.
Oklahoma will try to avoid its fourth sweep of the season Tuesday afternoon at 12:05 p.m. CDT at Des Moines. Lefty John Danks will face rehabbing lefty Sean Williams. The broadcast will air live on KEBC 1340 and the RedHawks Radio Network.
