
Grizzlies to close out season with nine-game homestand

FRESNO, Calif. - The Fresno Grizzlies will finish their 2006 home schedule with a nine-game homestand beginning Wednesday, August 23 with five games against the Sacramento River Cats and four games with the Portland Beavers at Grizzlies Stadium.
The homestand kicks off on Wednesday with "Way Back Wednesdays," presented by The Fresno Bee and K-JWL 99.3. Fans can celebrate the 100-year anniversary of professional baseball in Fresno as Field Level Reserved tickets are just $1 for seniors 55 and over, kids 12 and under and military personnel.
Hall of Famer and former Giants slugger Willie McCovey will make an appearance at Grizzlies Stadium Wednesday. He will be recognized during a pre-game tribute and then will hold a 45-minute autograph session on the concourse in front of the team store starting at 7:15 p.m.
Wednesday is also Faith Night featuring a pre-game musical performance by Audio Adrenaline and an appearance by the Veggie Tales mascots. Also on Wednesday, the first 1,500 fans will receive a Home Cap Desk Ornament, sponsored by Smooth Jazz 105.5 FM.
Thursday, August 24 will be another Thirsty Thursday, presented by 104.1 FM, where fans can quench their thirst with 12 oz. sodas and draft beers for just $1 until the end of the 5th inning. Fans can also participate in the "Back to School" drive to benefit the Salvation Army. Fans that donate new school supplies will receive a ticket voucher good for a free Field Level Reserved ticket.
It will be Christmas in August at Grizzlies Stadium on Friday the 25th as the ballpark will be decked to the halls with more details to follow. Also on Friday, fans can make a donation to Toys for Tots, sponsored by PELCO. Fans that donate a new, unwrapped toy will get a Field Level Reserved ticket for $5. The toy drive will run all weekend.
Friday is also Susan G. Komen Night, where the Grizzlies will wear pink jerseys to help raise awareness about breast cancer. The jerseys will be auctioned off during the game with proceeds going to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. They will also be forming a ribbon of hope on the field pre-game for breast cancer survivors
The first 2,500 fans into Saturday's game will receive a Grizzlies Logo Football, sponsored by 1550 Sporting News Radio. The Grizzlies will also honor three little league teams Saturday night. The Riverpark little league team that was one game from the Little League World Series will be honored along with the Visalia and Buchanon Cal Ripken League teams.
Sunday's game is Fan Appreciation Night as the Grizzlies raffle off various prizes throughout the game. Prior to the game fans can take part in the "Player Photo Op" on the field. The first 1,500 kids 12 & under will receive a Parker Growth Chart Giveaway, sponsored by Coca-Cola. Fans will also be treated to an added post-game fireworks show - the first of two fireworks shows this homestand. During pre-game activities, Shane Turner will present the "Carl's Jr. Player of the Year" award, as well as other awards to honor the season's top players. The Grizzlies "Fan of the Year" will also be revealed.
Monday, August 28 will be the final four games of the Grizzlies 2006 home season. Fans can take advantage of the weekday specials for the last time. The four-game series against Portland will begin with Monday Madness, sponsored by Wienerschnitzel, followed by Two-For-Tuesday, presented by Carl's Jr.
Wednesday, August 30 will be the final "Way Back Wednesday." To end the 100-year anniversary, fans can bid by silent auction for the Game-Worn Raisin Eater Jerseys worn by the Grizzlies every Wednesday home game.
The popular Thirsty Thursday promotion, sponsored by 104.1 FM, will close out the season on August 31, as well as one final post-game fireworks show. Also during the final game of the year, there will be a tribute to honor the active military and veterans throughout the Central Valley.
The beach that was constructed last homestand will be in the Inyo Plaza all of this homestand to continue along with the beach theme. And to help fans cool down in the summer heat are water misters that will be located in designated sections and in the concourse for fans to walk through and cool down.
