Tucson Sidewinders News Release

Tucson, AZ - Colorado Springs struck first and kept the lead for the entire game, eventually topping the Sidewinders by a final tally of 6-4. LF Scott Hairston smacked the first home run by a Sidewinder since 8/1 and his 22nd of the season, tying him for the third highest single season home run total in Tucson history. It was also his 43rd career blast for Tucson, placing him fourth on the team's all time list.

The Sky Sox put the first run on the board when C J.D. Closser hit a solo home run over the wall in left.

Colorado Springs extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the third. 2B Omar Quintanilla led off with a triple, but was gunned down on a fielder's choice that went 4-3, allowing SS Josh Wilson to reach first. RF Jeff Baker followed that up with a single to right to put runners on first and second. C J.D. Closser then doubled in both runs for Colorado Springs.

In the top of the fourth, LF Sean Barker hit a monster blast in his second straight game and put the Sky Sox up by a score of 4-0.

The Sidewinders finally got something going in the bottom of the fourth when the team loaded the bases with nobody out. SS Andy Green reached on an error. 2B Donnie Sadler and LF Scott Hairston walked and singled to load the bases. 3B Brian Barden grounded into a fielder's choice that brought home Tucson's first run. Sadler scored on a pickoff attempt that LHP Justin Hampson threw into center field that cut Colorado Springs' lead in half at 4-2.

The Sky Sox extended their lead back up to three runs when Salazar singled to lead off the inning, moved to third on a single and scored on a wild pitch by Bass.

Tucson came right back and got to within one on a two-run shot by LF Scott Hairston over the wall in left. It was the first home run by a Sidewinder in TEP since 8/1. Colorado Springs got a homer off the bat of Quintanilla in the top of the ninth to make the score 6-4 and keep the lead at two runs.

Hampson got the win for the Sky Sox, working six innings and allowing four runs, two earned on a walk and six hits. He struck out four on his way to improving to 7-4. RHP Adam Bass was tagged with the loss for Tucson, falling to 7-4. RHP Nate Field picked up his 22nd save of the year for the Sky Sox after working a scoreless ninth.

The Sidewinders open up a six game series against the Tacoma Rainiers tomorrow at 7:00 p.m.
