Sioux Falls Canaries News Release

SIOUX FALLS - The Sioux Falls Canaries losing streak hit six games on Friday night after a 10-6 loss to the St. Paul Saints opened a three-game series before 3,874 fans at Sioux Falls Stadium.

The Canaries (13-28) battled back from two big deficits and hit three home runs, but Sioux Falls pitching gave up two big innings and issued a season-high nine walks.

St. Paul (21-19) never trailed after Dwight Childs' sacrifice fly in the second inning broke a scoreless tie. The Saints plated five runs in third inning against Canaries starter Austin Brough (0-5). The big blow was Brandon Tripp's three-run home run. Brough lost for the fourth straight time as a starter, allowing six runs, three earned, and seven hits in three innings. He walked four and fanned one.

The Canaries began to respond with Jared Clark's solo home run - the first of two on the night - in the third inning. In the fifth, Nick Van Stratten tripled and scored on Cory Morales' groundout, and Marcos Rodriguez blasted a ball over the 410-foot sign in center field in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 6-2 deficit. It was his second home run of the year and first as a Canaries player. Rodriguez posted a three-hit night for the second time in just four games with the Birds.

The Saints put the contest out of reach with a four-run rally in the sixth, capped by Childs' two-run single and helped by two Canaries errors.

Rodriguez answered with an RBI single in the seventh, and Clark followed with a two-run home run. Clark was 2-for-4 with three RBI and regained the team lead with 12 home runs.

St. Paul starter Anthony Claggett (5-1) had a quality start for the win. He tossed six innings, giving up five hits and three runs. He walked four and struck out six.

The Canaries continue the series against the St. Paul Saints at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday, June 29, at Sioux Falls Stadium. Live music will entertain fans. The game will be broadcast on Sioux Falls Sports Radio 1230-AM, 98.1-FM KWSN and kwsn.com.
