Sioux City Explorers News Release

Wichita, KS-----The Central Division leading Wichita Wingnuts defeated the Explorers 13-5 at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium Friday night.

Explorers starting pitcher Preston Olson walked the first three batters he faced in the first inning and then the league leading home run hitter C.J. Ziegler launched a grand slam home run over the right field fence to give the Wingnuts an early 4-1 lead.

Wichita then added three more runs in the second inning to increase their lead to 7-1.

In a highlight for the Explorers in the third inning with Eliezer Mesa at second base, Sam Judah hit a sinking line drive to center field and Wichita centerfielder Brent Clevlan made a diving attempt, but the line drive skipped by him and rolled to the fence and Judah rounded the bases with an inside the park home run.

The Explorers were able to close the gap at 7-4 in the fourth inning, but that was as close as the X's could get as Sioux City dropped their third straight. It's the fifth time this season that the Explorers have reached a season high three-game losing streak.

The second game of the series will be played Saturday at 7:05pm at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium in Wichita. GAME DATE: 06/28/2013
