
Big Inning Boosts Baysox

Bowie, Md. - The Baysox used a six-run fourth inning and three-run fifth inning to come-from-behind and beat the Richmond Flying Squirrels 10-4 Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Baysox sweep the mini two-game series and salvage a 3-3 split despite losing the first three games in their six-game homestand.
Baysox designated hitter Chris O'Brien picked up three hits, three runs and three RBI as the Baysox offense erupted for 10 runs on 13 hits. The six-runs scored by the Baysox in the fourth inning were also a season-high.
Richmond struck first in the top of the second inning against Baysox starter Parker Bridwell. Devin Harris hit a one-out single to left field and moved to third base on a Ricky Oropesa two-out single. Bridwell walked the next two batters to bring home a run and give the Flying Squirrels the lead.
The Flying Squirrels added to the lead in the top of the third inning. Mitch Delfino hit a lead-off single to center field and Mac Williamson followed with a home run to left field to make the score 3-0.
The Baysox bats came alive in the bottom of the fourth inning against Richmond starter Chris Stratton. Glynn Davis got things started when he reached on an error by first baseman Ricky Oropesa and Stratton then walked the next two batters to load the bases. Jason Esposito brought home the first two runs of the inning with a single to center field and O'Brien followed with another single to load the bases again. Michael Burgess brought home the next two runs with a double to right field and Stephen Johnson then replaced Stratton on the mound. With one out, Sharlon Schoop brought home the final two runs of the inning with a single to right field to put the Baysox up 6-3.
Bowie kept the offense going in the bottom of the fifth inning. Rossmel Perez hit a one-out single to center field and Jason Esposito followed with a single to left field before Chris O'Brien homered to right field to make the score 9-3. Reliever Phil McCormick finished the inning for Richmond.
Richmond got one run back with a two-out rally in the top of the sixth inning against reliever Terry Doyle. Jackson Williams hit a two-out double to right field and scored on a Kelby Tomlinson single to center field to make the score 9-4.
The Baysox got the run back in the bottom of the seventh inning against reliever Tyler Rogers. O'Brien hit a two-out double to left field and scored on a Burgess single to left field to give the Baysox a 10-4 lead.
Bridwell pitched four innings, allowing three runs on six hits while striking out six and walking three in a no decision. Reliever Terry Doyle pitched four scoreless innings, allowing one run on four hits while striking out four in the win. Reliever Bobby Bundy pitched a scoreless ninth inning, allowing one hit and walking one while striking out two.
The Baysox are off Wednesday and begin a four-game series in Akron on Thursday. The team returns home for a seven-game homestand beginning Thursday, May 1 that features a pair of fireworks nights on Friday, May 2 and Saturday, May 3.
