
Fightins fall to the RubberDucks on Tuesday

The Reading Fightin Phils (7-4) fell for the first time at home in 2015 as the Akron RubberDucks (5-7) won by a score of 12-4 on Tuesday night. The Fightin Phils managed nine hits in the defeat.
For the second straight night Akron took the lead first as they plated two in the top of the first inning off Fightins starter Tom Windle to take a 2-0 lead. Ollie Linton scored on a RBI groundout from Yandy Diaz while Erik Gonzalez scored on a throwing error from catcher Logan Moore.
The RubberDucks extended their lead to 3-0 in the top of the 2nd inning off Windle as Justin Toole hit a RBI groundout to score Jordan Smith who led off the inning with a triple. Erik Gonzalez hit his first home run of the season off Windle in the top of the 3rd inning with one out to give Akron a 4-0 lead.
The Fightin Phils got on the board in the bottom of the 4th inning off RubberDucks starter Cody Anderson as KC Serna scored on a double-play ground ball hit by Brock Stassi to cut the deficit to 4-1.
Akron separated themselves from the Fightin Phils off Windle as they scored five runs to take a 9-1 lead highlighted by a grand slam from right fielder Jordan Smith. Brian Pointer hit his second home run of the season in the bottom of the 5th inning off Anderson to cut the lead to 9-2.
Windle left the game after five innings of work as he allowed nine runs (eight earned) off nine hits and three walks with three strikeouts. Mike Nesseth entered the game in the top of the sixth inning and gave up a RBI single to Tony Walters to extend Akron's lead to 10-2. Tony Wolters hit a RBI double off reliever Stephen Shackleford in the top of the 8th inning to give the RubberDucks an 11-2 lead.
The Fightins got to RubberDucks reliever Trey Haley in the bottom of the 8th inning to cut the lead to 11-4 as Aaron Altherr and Art Charles hit RBI singles. Akron scored another run in the top of the 9th inning to take a 12-4 lead.
Mike Nesseth pitched two shutout innings in relief of Windle. Shackleford and Ryan O'Sullivan each allowed a run in their relief appearances.
The Fightin Phils finish their series and home stand with the Akron RubberDucks on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 pm at FirstEnergy Stadium. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio AM 1240/FM 98-5 and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can also watch the game on MiLB.tv beginning at 6:05 pm.
