
Big Fourth Inning for Richmond Sinks Erie in Finale

The SeaWolves came up short in their bid for a six-game sweep. They fell to Richmond in the series finale, 7-3.
Erie started the scoring in the first inning. Trei Cruz walked and stole second. With two out, Grant Witherspoon singled Cruz home. Richmond starter Landen Roupp tossed just one inning, throwing 31 pitches in a hard-working frame.
Richmond tied the game against Erie starter Keider Montero in the third inning. Andy Thomas had an RBI single to score Simon Whiteman with two outs.
The Squirrels took the lead for good in the fourth inning when they scored five runs. With two runners on base and one out, Carter Williams singled home the go-ahead run for Richmond. Simon Whiteman followed with a squeeze bunt to score another run. Then, Luis Matos blasted a two-run home run to extend the lead to 5-1 and knock out Montero. Adam Wolf entered and surrendered a home run to his first batter, Marco Luciano. Wolf struck out his next four hitters.
Dillon Dingler got a run back for Erie in fifth inning on a two-out, RBI single.
Trailing 7-2 entering the ninth inning, Erie scored on Julio Rodriguez's leadoff home run against Evan Gates. Gates loaded the bases on two walks and single, bringing the tying run to the plate with two outs. However, Wenceel Perez struck out to end the game.
Erie's five game winning streak snaps with the loss. The SeaWolves open a series with Harrisburg on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. Ty Madden throws for Erie opposed by left-hander Mitchell Parker.
