Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
PEORIA, IL -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers scored six runs in the top of the fifth inning to break a 1-1 tie and run away to a 10-5 win over the Peoria Chiefs Saturday night at O'Brien Field. Marshall Hubbard hit a three run homer in the big inning and Aaron Jensen pitched six innings for his fifth win of the season.
The first bit of good news for the Rattlers was Mark Lowe. The righty returned to the mound and made his first start since June 4 against Southwest Michigan. Lowe had to leave that game after taking a line drive off his pitching hand. He worked a 1-2-3 first inning and struck out two.
Oswaldo Navarro drove in the first run of the game with a fielder's choice in the top of the third. Ryan Harvey tied the game with a fielder's choice in the bottom of the third.
The game remained tied until the top of the fifth inning. Wisconsin (46-41 overall, 7-10 second half) scored the go-ahead run when Chief third baseman Anthony Granato let an infield single by Josh Womack get by him and Brent Johnson scored from second with two outs. Chris Colton followed with an RBI single. Brandon Green knocked in Colton with an RBI double to make the score 4-1. Mike Wilson walked to put two runners on base. Hubbard drilled the first pitch of his at bat over the wall in leftcenter for his thirteenth home run of the season and a 7-1 Rattler lead.
Peoria (42-45, 7-10) got three runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jesse Schmidt singled to left with Eric Patterson at first and Sam Fuld at second. Fuld scored on the single and an error on the play allowed Patterson to score and Schmidt to take third base. An RBI single by Bo Flowers scored Schmidt and made the score 7-4.
Wisconsin got another two out rally going in the top of the seventh. Omar Falcon hit a solo homer, his second of the season. Matt Tuiasosopo singled. Then, Brent Johnson doubled into the rightfield corner for his third hit of the night. The throw to the plate should have got Tuiasosopo for the final out, but catcher Alan Rick dropped the ball for an error and another run. Then, Navarro singled in Johnson to put the Rattlers up 10-4.
Harvey doubled in the bottom of the seventh to drive in his second run of the game, but that was all the Chiefs could get in that inning. Mike Wilson made a spectacular diving catch in the right field corner for the final out of the seventh to rob Bo Flowers of at least an RBI double.
Jensen worked six innings allowing five runs (four earned) on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts. Donny Langdon pitched two scoreless innings to finish up the game.
The Rattlers and Chiefs meet in game three of the series on Sunday afternoon. Julio Santiago (1-2, 4.58ERA) will take the mound for Wisconsin. Chris Shaver (3-6, 4.08ERA) is the scheduled starter for Peoria. Game time is 2:00pm.
