Lansing Lugnuts News Release

LANSING - Charlie Anderson drove in all five runs and Danny Core worked six solid innings as the Lugnuts(46-40, 9-8) evened their series with the Kane County Cougars(41-45, 10-7) by earning a 5-1 win in front of the biggest crowd of the season, 10,472, at Oldsmobile Park on Saturday night.

Anderson's three-run homer in the third off Cougars starter Tony Evans(5-1) opened the scoring after Evans and Core(4-4) had worked through the first two innings of the game. The towering blast to right sent home Curtis Thigpen and Christian Snavely and sent the crowd into a frenzy.

That score held until the top of the fourth when Myron Leslie connected for his seventh homer, a leadoff solo shot that cut the lead to 3-1. It was the only damage allowed by Core, who allowed four hits in his six innings while striking out five. The outing was one of Core's best as a Lugnut and evened his mark at .500 on the season.

Anderson provided some insurance for the Lansing bullpen when he connected for a two-run single off Derek Tharpe that made it 5-1, plenty of support for Juan Perez and Jeremy Harper, who combined to hold the Cougars to one hit over the final three innings of the contest.

Evans, who hadn't lost in five previous starts, took the loss in his shortest outing of the year. In 4.2 innings, he allowed five hits, three earned runs and walked five batters.

The Lugnuts and Kane County have now split six matchups on the season and Lansing will play for the edge in the series tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 p.m. as A.J. Wideman takes to the hill for the Lugnuts against Kane County's Trent Peterson in a matchup of lefties on Meijer Kids Day.
