Burlington Bees News Release

Beloit, WI - The Burlington Bees (8-9, 42-45) tied a season-high with three home runs and Patrick Hicklen pitched a career-high eight innings in a 6-2 victory over the Beloit Snappers (8-9, 41-46) at Pohlman Field tonight. The Bees lead this series 2-0 and have pulled even in the season series at 5-5.

Hicklen (5-4) earned his first win since June 11th, allowing two runs on eight hits over eight innings. Chris Brown hit a solo homer in the bottom of the second to get Beloit on the board and the second run came in the bottom of the fourth when Deacon Burns tripled and scored on a passed ball. Hicklen's performance matches Patrick Green for the longest outing by a Bees' pitcher this season. Green pitched eight innings last night to beat Beloit.

The Bees evened the score against Beloit starter David Shinskie in the top of the fourth. Rusty Brown singled and scored from first on a two-out double by Eddie Solis. In the top of the sixth, Brown singled again and scored on a two-run homer by Brian McFall that gave the Bees the lead at 3-2. Two batters later, Shinskie (1-7) served up a solo homer to Kenard Springer and the Bees led 4-2. Springer has homered twice this week after going homerless since May 28th of last season. Kevin Slowey pitched the final three innings and struck out seven. The Bees got their final two runs against him in the top of the seventh inning. With one out, Irving Falu doubled and scored on a two-run homer by Geraldo Valentin. Valentin has two homers this week and three for the year.

Adam Rowe took over for Hicklen in the bottom of the ninth inning. He allowed a leadoff walk to David Winfree, but struck out the next two batters. Rowe also walked Trevor Plouffe to put two men on, so the Bees brought in Chad Blackwell for a save opportunity. Blackwell walked Javi Sanchez to load the bases, but got pinch-hitter Dwayne White to bounce back to the mound and completed the play to first to end the game for his team-leading sixth save.

NOTES: The Bees collected 12 hits tonight, extending their streak of games with at least ten hits to ten in a row...Falu was 2-5 with a double and scored a run and has reached base safely by hit or walk in 31 straight games, with a hit in 29 of the 31...the Bees have hit three home runs in a game three times this year and twice against Beloit.

The Bees and Snappers will continue this series tomorrow afternoon at 2:00 at Pohlman Field. RH Luis Cota (2-4, 3.95) will start for the Bees against RH Kyle Waldrop (5-5, 4.73) for the Snappers. The game will be broadcast live on KBUR AM 1490 and KBKB AM 1360 with the pre-game show starting at 1:40.
