Peoria Chiefs News Release
Peoria, IL - The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers broke a 1-1 tie in the 5th scoring five unearned runs off Peoria Chiefs starter Grant Johnson en route to a 10-5 over the Chiefs Saturday night. A raucous of 5,906 was entertained throughout the game by the Blues Brothers but watched the Chiefs fall to 7-10 on the half.
Wisconsin broke the game open with six runs in the 5th inning. Johnson retired two of the first three batters he faced in the inning before Chiefs third baseman Anthony Granato misplayed a ground ball to third, opening the flood gates for five unearned runs. The big blow came in the form of a three-run home run from Marshall Hubbard to left-center field to give the Timber Rattlers a 7-1 lead.
The Chiefs battled back with three runs in the bottom of the 5th, as Jesse Schmidt smacked an RBI single to left to score Sam Fuld. Eric Patterson scored from first on the play after Wisconsin left fielder Josh Womack let the ball get past him in the outfield. Schmidt moved to third and scored one batter later on a single from Bo Flowers to bring Chiefs with three at 7-4.
The Timber Rattlers got the three runs back in the top of 7th. Omar Falcon hit a solo home run to left field for an 8-4 lead before Brent Johnson's RBI double scored two runs. The Chiefs set up a relay throw to get the second runner at the plate, but the throw from Drew Larsen skipped off the glove of Chiefs catcher Alan Rick, allowing the run to score and the Timber Rattlers had a 10-4 lead.
Ryan Harvey doubled home Sam Fuld in the bottom of the 7th to draw the Chiefs within five after Fuld started the inning with a double. Two batters later, Bo Flowers hit a line drive down the right field line into the corner and was robbed of extra bases on a diving full-extention catch by Wisconsin right fielder Mike Wilson in the right field corner to end the inning.
Aaron Jensen entered the game in the 2nd inning for Wisconsin and picked up the victory, his 5th of the season. Grant Johnson took the loss for the Chiefs, falling to 1-3. He pitched 4 2/3 innings, allowing just two earned runs on six hits.
