Big Fifth Inning Helps Send Dodgers to 6-5 Win

Oklahoma City - A six-run fifth inning provided all of the offense the Oklahoma City Dodgers needed as they held on for a 6-5 win against the Fresno Grizzlies Monday night at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark.

The Grizzlies scored a run in the top of the ninth inning then went on to load the bases with two out before Dodgers reliever Kevin Quackenbush struck out Matt Reynolds to seal the win and pick up his first save of the season.

Monday's victory snapped a five-game losing skid for the Dodgers, who also avoided a series sweep in their lone series of the season against the Grizzlies.

The teams combined for nine runs in the fifth inning, with Fresno (32-32) taking the game's first lead.

With two outs in the top of the fifth inning, Wilmer Difo doubled and Carter Kieboom drew a walk before Jose Marmolejos hit a three-run home run out to right-center field for a 3-0 Grizzlies lead.

The Dodgers (24-39) loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning after Jake Peter singled, Errol Robinson doubled and Connor Joe was hit by a pitch with one out. Zach Reks followed and lined a two-run single into center field to cut Fresno's lead to 3-2.

Will Smith came up to bat next and drew a walk to load the bases again, still with one out. Shane Peterson followed and hit a bases-clearing triple to push the Dodgers into a 5-3 advantage.

After a Fresno pitching change, Peterson scored from third base on a wild pitch to extend Oklahoma City's lead to 6-3.

Marmolejos' RBI single in the seventh inning cut Oklahoma City's lead to 6-4.

The Grizzlies' offense further cut into the Dodgers' lead in the top of the ninth inning.

Kieboom tripled with one out and scored on a two-out wild pitch by Dodgers pitcher Jaime Schultz to cut Oklahoma City's lead to one run.

Jake Noll followed with a single before Quackenbush took the mound for Oklahoma City. Taylor Gushue came up to bat next and hit a single on a fly ball into center field to put two runners on base. Yadiel Hernandez followed and drew a walk to load the bases for Reynolds, who Quackenbush struck out to end the game.

Dodgers starting pitcher Brock Stewart (1-4) returned from the Injured List to make his first start since mid-May, allowing three runs on five hits over 5.0 innings with two walks and six strikeouts.

Fresno starting pitcher Paolo Espino (6-2) was charged with the loss, allowing six runs and seven hits over 4.1 innings with one walk and eight strikeouts as the Grizzlies won the series, 3-1.

The Grizzlies won the four-game series at Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark, 3-1, and outhit the Dodgers, 9-8, in Monday's series finale.

Following a league-wide off day Tuesday, the Dodgers travel for a seven-game road trip against Pacific Conference opponents that starts with a game at 7:35 p.m. Central Time Wednesday at Albuquerque.
