Iowa Cubs News Release
DES MOINES, IA - The Iowa Cubs (35-30) dominated the Albuquerque Isotopes (30-35) by a score of 13-4 on Monday to avoid the sweep. Iowa powered four home runs to cap the homestand.
Jacob Hannemann got the offense rolling for the I-Cubs, giving Iowa a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the second.
Albuquerque took its only lead of the game in the top of the third with a two-RBI single by starting pitcher Tim Melville to go ahead 2-1.
The I-Cubs offense was given another spark from Hannemann in the fourth when he put a second ball over the right field wall to reclaim the Iowa lead at 3-2 and the I-Cubs didn't look back.
Ian Happ hit a two-run blast in the fifth and followed it with an RBI-double in the sixth. The outfielder then came around to score with Phillip Evans on a single by Jim Adduci. Robel Garcia hit a two-run homer, his 10th with Iowa in 2019, to cap the five-run sixth inning that put I-Cubs ahead 10-2
The I-Cubs struck for three runs in the eighth with Garcia and Hannemann doing more damage. Garcia punched a double that scored a pair and Hannemann brought in Garcia with a single.
The Isotopes got two runs home in the ninth, but the I-Cubs' damage was done.
Iowa's starter Alec Mills was phenomenal on the hill, tying his season-high by spinning 6.2 innings and allowing two runs on four hits. He retired the final 10 batters he faced.
