Texas AirHogs News Release

WINNIPEG, Manitoba, Canada - The AirHogs used a 4-run 5th inning to draw even in their series in Winnipeg, downing the Goldeyes by a final of 5-3. Cody Hebner struck out 7 over 5.2 innings to get his 1st win of the season.

The AirHogs opened the scoring early against Winnipeg starter Mikey O'Brien on a 2nd inning RBI base hit by Brian Bistagne that scored Devon Rodriguez. The early lead provided all the cushion Hebner would need over the first portion of the game: he held the Goldeyes scoreless on 6 strikeouts from the 1st to the 4th.

The AirHogs added to the lead in the top of the 5th. Bistagne and Will DuPont were each hit by O'Brien offerings, and Michael Hur made the Goldeyes starter pay with an RBI double. Juan Sanchez chipped in with an RBI sacrifice fly, and Rodriguez scored 2 with a 2-out RBI single of his own.

Working with a 5-0 lead, Hebner allowed 2 to score but was able to strand 2 in the bottom of the 5th. He turned the ball over to Tyler Ihrig with 2 aboard and 2 outs in the bottom of the 6th. An RBI base hit by PH Carlton Tanabe trimmed the lead to 5-3, but Ihrig bore down to fire a scoreless bottom of the 7th. Alan Oaks and Carlos Misell combined to face just 7 in the last 2 frames and keep the Goldeyes from drawing any closer.

Hebner picked up his 1st win, and the 7 strikeouts were a single-game season-high for the righty. O'Brien suffered his 2nd loss in surrendering 5 runs over 5 frames. The save was the 2nd of the season for Misell.

7 of the 9 spots in the order reached for the AirHogs, who will look to replicate the efficient pitching and hitting performances tomorrow in the series finale. The 3rd of the 3-game set will start at 11 am at Shaw Park. LHP Griffin Russell is expected to start for the AirHogs.

A live radio broadcast will be available at mixlr.com/TXAirHogs.
