Gary SouthShore Railcats News Release

SIOUX FALLS, SD - The Sioux Falls Canaries avoided the sweep and claimed their first win in the last eight games in dominant fashion over the Gary SouthShore RailCats. The Canaries (10-17) scored five runs in the 1st inning and never looked back in their 10-2 victory of the RailCats (13-14).

Karl Triana got knocked around in the first and was charged with the loss. The Colombian went six innings and allowed just the five 1st inning runs on eight total hits. He struck out three while walking one batter.

Misael Siverio earned the win for Sioux Falls after shutting down the RailCats. He pitched seven innings and allowed two runs on five hits. He struck out seven batters.

The disastrous 1st inning included two singles, a double, and a home run. The Canaries were aided by tricky ground balls that took bad hops on RailCat infielders. They capitalized with runners aboard and established the early lead.

Gary SouthShore's two runs came on two solo home runs. Jose Gonzalez hit a blast in the 3rd and Tillman Pugh jacked one in the 6th inning. It was Pugh's fifth home run of the season and his second of the series. The RailCats hit seven homers in the last five games compared to hitting just seven in the first 22 games.

The bullpen could not keep the RailCats within striking distance after Triana left with the game at 5-2. Manny Arciniega allowed three runs and John Kovalik gave up two with each pitching one inning.

Despite the loss on Thursday, the RailCats won their second consecutive road series. They continue the road trip on Friday in Lincoln against the division-leading Saltdogs. Alex Gunn's first pitch is at 6:35 and coverage begins at 6:10 on 95.9 WEFM and railcatsbaseball.com.
