Wichita Wingnuts News Release
WICHITA, Kans. - The Wichita Wingnuts fell in an early 2-0 hole, but erased the deficit quickly on their way to a 6-4 win over the Kansas City T-Bones Thursday at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.
Kansas City (11-16) scored the game's first runs just three batters in, with Jake Blackwood taking Wichita starter Alex Boshers (2-2) deep for a two-run shot.
The Wingnuts (14-12) answered in the home half. With two outs, Dustin Geiger and Richard Prigatano collected back-to-back run-scoring knocks to even the score.
Wichita then got Boshers the lead in the second. Brent Clevlen drew a bases loaded walk, and T.J. Mittelstaedt plated two with a single, which chased T-Bones starter David Holman (2-2). Mittelstaedt's two RBIs give him 22 now for the season, which leads the club.
Kansas City began to chip away at the three-run deficit in the fourth. Dalton Wheat drove in a run with a sacrifice fly, before an RBI bounce out off the bat of Vladimir Frias closed the gap to one in the fifth.
The fifth was the last inning for Boshers, who turned a 5-4 lead over to the bullpen. The relief quartet of Jesse Pratt, Fabian Roman, Chad Nading, and Frankie Reed got the job done for Wichita, holding Kansas City scoreless over the final four innings. Reed got the final three outs, striking out a pair as part of a three up, three down ninth inning that earned the lefty his fourth save.
The Wingnuts added an insurance run in the seventh, with Geiger driving in his second of the game on a double off of T-Bones reliever Aaron Baker.
The Wingnuts continue their homestand Friday night as the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks come to Lawrence-Dumont Stadium for the opener of a three-game series. First pitch for Friday's series opener is set for 7:05, and the game can be heard on 1410 AM KGSO, as well as on TuneIn.
