Akron RubberDucks News Release
Shane Bieber strikes out four over 3.2 hitless innings, but the Altoona Curve scored a run in the top of the eighth to pull away late and beat the Akron RubberDucks 3-2 on Tuesday night at Canal Park.
Turning Point
Altoona finally broke the 2-2 tie in the top of the eighth. Jackson Glenn opened the inning with a hustle double before advancing to third on a sac-bunt. Carter Bins lifted a sac-fly to right to score Glenn and put the Curve ahead 3-2.
Mound Presence
Bieber looked strong out of the gate getting a flyout and strikeout to open his first rehab start. The Curve were able to scratch across an unearned run against the right-hander after a hit-by-pitch and error gave Altoona the early lead. Bieber settled in to retire the next nine in a row before exiting after allowing a walk and a hit batter. Ross Carver followed and gave up a RBI double before escaping the jam with a flyout. Carver went on to toss 5.1 innings allowing one run while striking out six.
Duck Tales
Akron answered Altoona's early runs with a two spot in the fourth. Back-to-back two out walks to Milan Tolentino and Micael Ramirez kept the inning alive for Joe Naranjo. The first baseman singled home Tolentino to make it 2-1 Altoona. Connor Kokx singled home Ramirez to tie the game 2-2.
