
Williams Helps Lead Ponies to Win Over Reading in Double-A Debut

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - The Binghamton Rumble Ponies (36-25, 71-59), led by Jett Williams in his Double-A debut and Blade Tidwell on the mound, defeated the Reading Fightin Phils 8-1 on Tuesday night at Mirabito Stadium.
Williams went 2-for-4 and scored three runs, reaching base on a double, single, and hit by pitch. The 19-year-old batted second and played shortstop.
Tidwell (3-3) struck out a Double-A career-high nine batters over five scoreless innings, while allowing three hits and no walks. He struck out the side in the fifth inning to cap off his dominant outing.
The Ponies grabbed the lead in the first inning. Williams was hit by a pitch and Kevin Parada later drove him in with an RBI double to make it 1-0. It marked Parada's 11th RBI in his 11th game for Binghamton.
Binghamton added more in the third on an RBI single from JT Schwartz and sacrifice fly from Agustin Ruiz, which made Binghamton's lead 3-0.
The Ponies exploded for a four-spot in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI single from Rowdey Jordan and two-run double from Ruiz.
Reading (29-34, 57-74) scored its lone run in the sixth on a sacrifice fly from Carlos De La Cruz, which cut Binghamton's lead to 7-1.
Williams led off the eighth with a hustle double and Gilbert replaced him at second with an RBI double that made it 8-1.
The Rumble Ponies continue their series with the Fightin Phils on Wednesday night at Mirabito Stadium. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. and pregame coverage will begin at 6:20 p.m. on the WNBF Rumble Ponies Radio Network.
Postgame Notes: David Griffin struck out three batters over three innings in relief and Daison Acosta struck out two batters in a perfect ninth inning...Ponies' pitchers combined to strike out 14 batters without issuing a walk...Williams (1), Gilbert (9), Parada (4), and Schwartz (20) recorded multi-hit games...Rhylan Thomas extended his hitting streak to eight games...Gilbert reached base five times on two hits, a walk, and two catcher's interferences...Jordan has recorded six runs batted in over his last two games.
