
Bernier, Team Canada Win All-Star Skills Competition

PORTLAND, ME - Manchester Monarchs goaltender Jonathan Bernier helped the Canadian AHL All-Stars defeat the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars 18-12 on Monday night at the Ducks Unlimited AHL All-Star Skills Competition at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine.
Bernier made five saves on 10 shots in the Rapid Fire challenge, made two saves in the Pass and Score challenge and stopped 5-of-6 shots in the Breakaway Relay.
Monarchs Head Coach Mark Morris and Assistant Coach Scott Pellerin were the bench bosses for defenseman Viatcheslav Voynov and the PlanetUSA AHL All-Stars. Voynov participated in the Puck Control Relay, shot the puck at 94 miles per hour in the Hardest Shot challenge and was denied by Bernier in the Breakaway Relay challenge.
The 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic features the top talent in the American Hockey League. The AHL All-Star Game takes place Tuesday night and will air on NESN at 6 p.m. EST.
Of the 492 players to take part in the AHL All-Star Classic since 1995, more than 94 percent have competed in the National Hockey League, including NHL stars Patrice Bergeron, Dan Boyle, Zdeno Chara, Miikka Kiprusoff, Ryan Miller, Zach Parise, Martin St. Louis, Jason Spezza and Eric Staal.
