Benimon's Big Day Not Enough

Boise, Idaho (January 31, 2015) - Austin Spurs guard Bryce Cotton scored 17 of his game-high 38 points in the fourth quarter as the Spurs went on to defeat the Idaho Stampede 107-102.

Cotton hit three consecutive 3-pointers in one minute to give Austin an 86-82 lead in a game that saw 18 lead changes and was tied 12 times. The Stampede tied the game up two more times in the fourth quarter but couldn't slow down Cotton's hot shooting.

Idaho had a chance to send the game to overtime, down three points with just 10 seconds remaining. Stampede guard Shane Gibson took the inbound pass but was falling out of bounds on the sideline and had to throw the ball back on the court. Spurs forward Jonathan Simmons grabbed the loose ball and hit both free throws to seal the victory Austin.

Jerrelle Benimon was a force down low, recording 27 points, 11 assists and eight rebounds for the Stampede. Fellow forward Jack Cooley grabbed 19 rebounds, a season high for any Stampede player this season, while adding 14 points. Jermaine Taylor posted his second consecutive game of at least 20 points.

All five starters scored in double figures for the Spurs, led by Cotton's 38. Kyle Anderson recorded another double-double, with 16 points and 11 rebounds on assignment from the San Antonio Spurs. Austin used a 34-26 scoring advantage in the fourth quarter to grab the lead for good.

Idaho (4-25) will visit the Delaware 87ers on Tuesday, Feb. 3 for their next game. Austin (19-9) will travel to Grand Rapids to take on the Drive on Friday, Feb. 6.
