Grand Rapids Drive News Release
WALKER MI - January 31 - The Grand Rapids Drive (14-12) defeated the Delaware 87ers (10-16) on Saturday night at home by a score of 99-98 to earn their first win in four games.
The Drive took a ten-point lead early and carried it through the first quarter, piggybacking off 14 first-quarter points from their leading scorer Adonis Thomas.
But the Sevens refused to quit, and gradually whittled the Drive's lead down. They tied the game at 93 with six minutes to go in the contest.
After some back-and-forth, the Sevens took their first lead of the game with just over a minute left. But a dunk by Willie Reed put the Drive right back on top, and they sealed the deal shortly after.
Thomas finished with 29 points, leading all scorers. Reed had a big role in Hasheem Thabeet's absence, posting 18 points and pulling down 10 rebounds.
Delaware's two high-flying scorers, D.J. Seeley and Jared Cunningham, came into the game averaging 40.3 combined points and scored 35 Saturday. Seeley had 20 points to lead the Sevens, and the team put five players in double figures.
Both these teams play the Idaho Stampede in their next game. The Sevens take them on at home on February 3, and the Drive play them on the road the next day.
