Fort Worth Cats News Release
Down to the final strike and trailing by one, Cats' third baseman Michael Bell hit a two-run, game-winning home run as the Cats edged Wichita 3-2 on Saturday night at LaGrave Field.
A crowd of 4,161 saw the Cats rally twice in the game with home runs. After Wichita took a 1-0 lead in the fifth inning on an RBI double by Michael Thompson, Pat O'Sullivan's team-leading 13th homer in the sixth made it a 1-1 contest.
Wichita would score again in the eighth against Cats' reliever Ryan Trytten. After Thompson delivered a leadoff double, he moved to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on a single by Josh Horn past a drawn-in infield for a 2-1 Wingnuts advantage.
In the bottom of the ninth against reliever Doug Hurn, John Allen kept the game alive with a two-out single to left. Bell went to a 3-2 count against Hurn before lining a ball just over the left field fence for a game-winning homer. It was Bell's 12th home run of the season and gave the Cats a 3-2 win over Wichita.
Trytten (2-1) notched the win after allowing a run on three hits in two innings of relief. Hurn (3-2), trying for his second save in as many nights, fell one strike short as he suffered the loss.
Thompson was 3-for-3 in the game for Wichita with two doubles, an RBI and a run scored. O'Sullivan had two hits and a homer for the Cats. Brian Fryer was 0-for-4 in the game as his 26-game hitting streak came to an end.
Cats' starter Joel Kirsten allowed just a run on three hits in seven inning of work, but got no decision. Wichita starter Brad Davis also pitched well, permitting a run on four hits in six innings before departing with the game tied 1-1 .
The win evens the three-game weekend series a one each and sets up the rubber match of the series on Sunday night at 6:05 p.m. Jae Jung (6-3) starts for the Cats with Gabe Medina (8-5) on the hill for Wichita.
