Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN, NE - The Lincoln Saltdogs added an arm and a bat for the stretch run over the weekend, acquiring right-handed pitcher Justin Knoff and infielder/outfielder Norm Hutchins. The Saltdogs also placed outfielder Pichi Balet on the disabled list, and released pitcher Brian Campbell.

Knoff, acquired from Sussex of the Can-Am League in exchange for cash and a player to be named, will take Campbell's spot in the rotation. He was 5-5 with a 3.24 ERA for Sussex this season. The SkyHawks picked him up in the middle of the 2008 season from El Paso, and he helped them win the Can-Am championship. Knoff has also played in the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals organizations, reaching as high as Class AA. Knoff is expected to start tonight's game for Lincoln in St. Paul.

Hutchins, a 16-year professional player who has spent parts of four seasons in Class AAA, was acquired from Chico in the Golden League in exchange for cash and a player to be named. He appeared in 23 games for the Outlaws this year, hitting .238 with three home runs and six RBI. In 2008, Hutchins hit 15 home runs for Long Beach, batting .301. He began his career in 1994 as a second-round pick of the Angels.

Balet, who hasn't played since August 10 because of illness, is hitting .313 with a home run and 31 RBI in 53 games. Campbell suffered a season-ending injury last Monday, and ended the 2009 campaign with a 3-5 record and a 5.66 ERA.
