Bees open second half with sloppy affair
June 25, 2010 - Midwest League (MWL1)
Burlington Bees News Release
Grand Chute, WI - The Bees briefly held a lead after an enthralling two-out rally in the top of the third, but struggles by the defense and bullpen sealed the Bees' fate on Friday night in a 9-3 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium.
All three Bees runs came with two out in the third inning off of Wisconsin starter Kyle Heckathorn (W, 6-4). With runners at first and second, Wil Myers drilled a single to left that caromed off of the chest of left fielder Khris Davis toward center field to bring home Hilton Richardson. Myers was credited with the RBI, and he and Gerard Hall wound up at second and third respectively after the miscue. One batter later, Joey Lewis singled home the two baserunners to give the Bees a 3-2 advantage.
The lead proved temporary, however, as the Bees' defense came unhinged in the bottom of the fourth. Richardson and Hall each committed a pair of defensive miscues, opening the door for a pair of unearned Rattlers runs. The four errors in a single inning were the most for the Bees this season.
The Rattlers put the game away with four runs in the sixth. Michael Marseco drove in two with a double, and D'Vontrey Richardson and Khris Davis each used hits to drive in single tallies as well. Davis, fresh off of his home run derby title at the all-star festivities in Fort Wayne, went 2-for-5 with a homer, a double, two RBI, and two runs scored.
Carlo Testa had two doubles to lead the Bees, and Myers and Fernando Cruz each had a single and a double.
The three-game series rolls on tomorrow night at 6:35. Tune into News Radio 1490 KBUR for the Casebine Community Credit Union Pregame Show at 6:15.
