Quad Cities River Bandits News Release
DAVENPORT, Iowa - The River Bandits battled back and scored two runs in bottom of the 9th but it was not enough to overtake the Kane County Cougars as they took the series opener 4-2. Edgar Lara and Ryan Jackson each drove in a run and the Bandits had four hits in the inning but the Cougars held on to take the win.
The Cougars struck first in the second with a two RBI double from Michael Gilmartin. The Cougars never looked back adding two runs later. Rashun Dixon chipped in an RBI single in the sixth inning and Max Stassi contributed an RBI of his own in the 8th.
Robert Gilliam (5-5) picked up his fifth win of the year for Kane County. He pitched 5.1 shutout innings, only gave up four hits, walked three and struck out seven. Eric Fornataro (5-6) started the game for the Bandits and took the loss. Fornataro went six full innings, and gave up three of the Cougars four runs on seven hits and punched out three.
The Bandits take on Kane County again on Saturday when they send righty Jorge Rondon to the mound to face the right handed Dan Straily. First pitch is set for 6:00 p.m. The first 2,000 fans through the gates at Modern Woodmen Park will receive a free Bert Blyleven bobblehead. Superfly Samurai will be performing in a post-game concert as well. Gates will open early at 4:00 p.m. for a vintage baseball game.
