
Bees have last laugh against Chiefs

Burlington, IA - The Peoria Chiefs rallied back from a 3-0 deficit to tie the Burlington Bees 4-4 before falling 5-4 Thursday night at Community Field. With the loss the Chiefs frop to 8-13 on the half and 43-48 on the season.
The Bees jumped on Chiefs starter Matt Weber in the bottom of the first for three runs on five hits. Irving Falu and Geraldo Valentin started with back to back singles and both scored on a double down the line from Damaso Espino. After a pair of outs, Eddie Solis singled home Espino for a 3-0 Burlington lead.
The Chiefs were silenced by Bees starter Patrick Green until the 6th. Sam Fuld led off the inning with a double down the left-field line. He advanced to third on a groundout from Eric Patterson and scored on a groundout off the bat or Ryan Harvey.
After the Bees scored against Weber in the bottom of the 6th, the Chiefs came back for a pair in the 7th. Jonathan Douillard led off with a single and was replaced by pinch runner Bo Flowers. Drew Larsen followed with a double to left-center as Flowers raced home to make it a 4-2 game. After a groundout sent Larsen to third, Aaron Smith drove him home with a groundout to shortstop.
With two outs in the 8th, Ryan Harvey crushed a solo homer over the left-field fence to tie the game 4-4. The homer, his team leading 14th of the season, came off lefthanded reliever Adam Rowe.
Burlington bounced right back in the bottom of the 8th against reliever Mike Jones. Kenard Springer led off with a single and Cody Cure followed with an infield hit. After Falu popped up a sac bunt attempt, Tim Layden replaced Jones on the mound. Springer and Cure pulled of a double steal to get into scoring position and Valentin brought home Springer with a groundout to short for a 5-4 Bees lead.
Weber took a no-decision in his third start against the Bees this year. He allowed four runs on 10 hits in six innings of work. The All-Star righthander struck out four and walked one. Mike Jones (0-1) took the loss with 1 1/3 innings of work in which he allowed one run on two hits and a walk.
Pepsi Players of the Game Ryan Harvey (RF) - The Chiefs rightfielder leads the team with 14 homers and 58 RBI. He is among the top five in the MWL in both categories trailing only Allen Mottrom of South Bend in HR. Harvey was 1-for-4 Thursday with a solo HR and two rbi. Notes... Sam Fuld has a six game hit streak and has hit safely in 23 of his last 25 starts...Jesse Schmidt collected two hits for the second straight game...The two teams meet up again on Friday for the final time this season...The season series is tied 5-5...The Chiefs will have RH Grant Johnson on the mound while Burlington counters with RH Justin Sherman at 7:00 PM...The game can be heard on 1350 WOAM and www.peoriachiefs.com.
