
Devil Rays split soaked doubleheader with Lugnuts

BATTLE CREEK, Mich. -- The Southwest Michigan Devil Rays and Lansing Lugnuts waited 44 minutes to begin their double header of a resumed game from yesterday and the orginal game for July 14. Each team picked up a win as Southwest Michigan won 10-5 in Game 1 before dropping the second game 4-1.
Each team stays tied with the other in the standings with records of 10-11. The Devil Rays scored eight runs off Russ Savickas for an 8-5 lead on Wednesday night. Reid Brignac homered later in the same game resumed today to help extend it to 10-5.
Chi-Hung Cheng dominated the Devil Rays in the second game as only one run was scored on a Chris Nowak RBI single in the first inning. Brandon Mann pitched a solid game allowing two runs in five innings, but it wasn't enough to beat Lansing as Cheng retired 11 consecutive at one point.
Yesterday's game went 1 hour and 16 minutes before C.O. Brown Stadium was slammed with a hard rain. The game was delayed 47 minutes before being suspended until today. At the onset of the 6:05 p.m. start time, another burst of rain hit Battle Creek and delayed the start of today's double-header an additonal 44 minutes.
The Devil Rays and Lugnuts will conclude this three-game series on Friday night. Rally the mascot will entertain fans of all ages during the game. Eddie De La Cruz will start for Southwest Michigan against Lansing's Danny Core. The game begins at 7:05 p.m.
