Kane County Cougars News Release

GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars, in conjunction with the Oakland Athletics, announced today that home run slugger Eddie Kim has landed on the disabled list after straining his right oblique in yesterday's game against the Beloit Snappers. Activated on the Cougars roster for this evening's contest, catcher David Castillo makes an encore appearance in Kane County. The team faces the Snappers in game two of a three-game stint tonight at Elfstrom Stadium with a late start at 7:00 p.m.

The Oakland A's nabbed the 23- year-old Castillo in the 7th round of the 2003 June draft out of Oral Roberts University. Starting professional play with the Vancouver Canadians (Northwest) that season, the Corpus Christi, Texas native hit .257 for the Short-A squad while collecting fourteen RBI and one home run. Selected to play on the 2004 Midwest League Western Division All-Star team, Castillo produced a .246 average while wearing a Cougars jersey, driving in 59 teammates and knocking nine out of the park.

Currently hitting .269 for Kane County with 39 RBI and nine home runs, Kim has appeared in 53 games for the Cougars this season prior to landing on the disabled list. The James Madison University attendee found himself to be a part of the A's organization after being selected in the 4th round of the 2003 draft. Following seasons in Vancouver (.305, 39 RBI, 4 HR) and Kane County (.254, 71 RBI, 10 HR), Kim arrived back in Geneva on May 6 of this season after a knee injury kept him in extended spring training to start the season.

Amidst a seven-game home stand, the Cougars will host the Beloit Snappers for two match-ups tonight and tomorrow before the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers slither into town for a four game stretch starting on Saturday, July 16. The next six games feature three fireworks shows (Friday, Saturday & Tuesday) and visits from Jake the Diamond Dog (Thursday & Friday), new to Elfstrom Stadium Reggy (Sunday) and the ZOOperstars (Tuesday).
