Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release
FOX CITIES STADIUM -- The Wisconsin Timber Rattlers trailed 3-0 after the top of the second inning in their game Thursday night at Fox Cities Stadium against the Swing of the Quad Cities. The Rattlers scored single runs in the second, fourth, fifth, and sixth innings for a 4-3 win. Oswaldo Navarro drove in the go ahead run with a single. Rattler reliever Steve Grasley pitched 3-1/3 scoreless innings (with a little help) and struck out a career high six for his seventh win of the season.
Matt Lemanczyk, who hit a three run homer in his last at bat of Wednesday's game, led off Thursday's game with a home run for a 1-0 Swing lead.
Quad Cities (50-40 overall, 14-7 second half) added to their lead with a two run single by Mike Ferris in the top of the second inning.
The Rattlers (49-42, 10-11) got an unearned run in the bottom of the second to make the score 3-1. Wisconsin had runners at first and third with one out in the bottom of the fourth. Yung Chi Chen popped out to shallow right, but Nick Stavinoha dropped the fly ball. Stavinoha got a force out at second base, but the run scored to pull the Rattlers to within 3-2.
Brent Johnson set up the Rattlers tying run in the bottom of the fifth. He started the inning with a single. Then, Johnson went from first to third on an infield ground out. Brandon Green's single to left tied the game 3-3.
Navarro put the Rattlers in front with an RBI single in the bottom of the sixth.
The Swing loaded the bases against Grasley in the top of the eighth inning. Grasley issued a lead off walk, hit a batter with one out, and walked another batter with two outs. The right hander got out of the inning by striking out Calvin Hayes looking for the third out.
In the ninth, Grasley again walked the first batter of the inning. Lemanczyk reached on the walk. Grasley struck out Matt Shepherd looking for the first out. Rick Ankiel lined the first pitch of his at bat off the centerfield wall. Chris Colton played the ball off the wall perfectly and threw a strike to Matt Tuiasosopo, the relay man. Lemanczyk tried to score, but Tuiasosopo's throw to the plate beat him for the second out of the inning. Grasley got a ground out to end the game.
The final game of the series is Friday night. Aaron Jensen (5-8, 5.38ERA) is the scheduled starter for the Timber Rattlers. Tyler Adamczyk (1-3, 11.07ERA) is slated to go for the Swing. Game time is 7:05pm.
