Albuquerque Isotopes News Release

The Isotopes (18-16) were able to bring the tying run to the plate in the ninth inning but ultimately fell short on Wednesday afternoon, losing to the Salt Lake Bees 4-2. The loss moves Albuquerque two and a half games out of first place in the PCL's Pacific Southern Division.

Isotopes starter Jeff Hoffman (2-2, 2.16) suffered his second consecutive loss on the afternoon after tossing a season-high 101 pitches. The 23-year-old went 5.0 innings, allowing five hits, three runs (two earned), walking three and striking out six.

In his first rehab appearance with the Isotopes, Rockies reliever Jason Motte recorded a scoreless eighth inning out of the bullpen, walking one and striking out one.

As for the Isotopes offense, Albuquerque bookended the game with a run in both the first and ninth innings. Outfielder Mike Tauchman drove home the first run of the game for the Isotopes on an RBI groundout in the first. Infielder Tim Smalling knocked in the club's second run in the ninth inning, attempting to keep the Isotopes in the ball game.

This was not to be, as Bees reliever Al Alburquerque picked up his second consecutive save for Salt Lake over Albuquerque.

The Isotopes and Bees are back in action tomorrow evening from Salt Lake when Shane Carle (3-2, 6.68) takes the hill for Glenallen Hill's squad. He will be opposed by Salt Lake's Chris Jones (2-2, 6.83). First pitch from Smith's Park is set for 6:35 p.m.
