BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Trailing 3-1 to the visiting Greenville Swamp Rabbits heading into the third period, the Brampton Beast exploded for one of their best periods of the season and netted three goals in the final frame to eke out an exciting 4-3 win at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon, snapping their six-game winless skid.

Colin Murray, Mike Hammond, David Ling and Luc-Olivier Blain each recorded two points, while Scott Howes chipped in with a goal in his first game back in the lineup after an injury to help the Beast to their first regulation win since January 10.

The Beast were the first to find the back of the net near the midway point of the opening period. After some impressive stick handling to ward off the Greenville defender in the offensive zone, Scott Howes battled his way into the crease and swatted home the loose puck to give the Beast a 1-0 lead just 10:13 into the first. The newly-acquired forward Colin Murray and Luc-Olivier Blain got the assists on Howes' 13th goal of the season.

The Beast's first goal of the evening prompted a sea of jerseys to be thrown onto the ice as a promotion in support of Moss Park Hockey League. The Beast hosted a jersey and equipment drive at this afternoon's game with all equipment and jerseys to be donated to Moss Park.

Greenville didn't wait long to find the equalizer however, as Garrett Bembridge walked in on the right wing less than a minute later and picked the top corner tying the game at 11:07.

Moments later, Beast defenseman Jordan Henry was ejected from the game for slew-footing and the Swamp Rabbits made the Beast pay on the extended five-minute power play.

Ryan Rashid picked the corner on Ruby for a power play goal at 11:36 to give the Swamp Rabbits their first lead of the game. Shortly thereafter, Andrew Dommet lit the lamp with the man advantage at 14:31, giving the visitors a 3-1 edge heading into the second period.

Neither team was able to find a goal in the second frame, as both goalies stole the show. Jordan Ruby's glove hand kept the Beast in the game as the Swamp Rabbits poured 10 shots toward the Beast netminder. His Greenville counterpart, Allen York, was equally impressive, stopping 20 shots through the opening 40 minutes.

Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk must have said some inspiring words to his club during the second intermission because the Beast came out with a ferocious energy to start the third period.

Scott Jacklin entered the zone on the left wing side and managed to centre the puck to a streaking Colin Murray. The newcomer chipped a backhand shot over York for his first as a member of the Beast just 57 seconds into the third.

The Beast continued their intense pressure early in the period as Hammond pounced on a puck in the slot. It was deflected high over the net, bounced off the glass, right onto the stick of David Ling, who tapped in his second of the season just 1:14 into the third.

The Beast continued to roar and took control of the game for good just over five minutes into the period. Mike Hammond took a pass in the slot from David Ling and rifled a perfect wrist shot over the glove of York, giving the Beast their first lead since the first period at the 5:18 mark of the final frame.

The Beast defense flexed its muscles throughout the remainder of the third period and Ruby stopped all four shots he faced over the final 20 minutes of play to help the Beast pick up their first win since February 12.

Notes: The Beast finished the game 0-for-2 on the power play and 1-for-3 on the penalty kill. Molson Three Stars: 3) Mike Hammond 2) Colin Murray 1) David Ling.

The Beast will try to make it two wins in a row on Friday, March 4 as they host the Elmira Jackals at the Powerade Centre at 7:15 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
