Beast Stun Swamp Rabbits 4-3

Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release

Brampton, ON - The Greenville Swamp Rabbits (24-24-7), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, surrendered three goals in a span of 4:21 during the third period on Sunday and let a two-goal lead slip away in a 4-3 setback to the Brampton Beast (17-26-11) at the Powerade Centre.

Garett Bembridge, Ryan Rashid and Andrew Dommett each scored in the opening frame, but the Beast responded with a multi-point effort from four different skaters, including Mike Hammond (1g, 1a) who buried the game-winning goal at 5:18 of the third. Brampton snapped a six-game slide with the win, while the Swamp Rabbits' losing streak hit six games for the second time this season (0-5-1).

Brampton opened the scoring at 10:13 of the first period when Scott Howes collected his 13th goal of the season. At even strength, Colin Murray and Luc-Olivier Blain teamed up to find Howes at the door step, where the Beast forward swatted home a backhand shot that trickled past goaltender Allen York.

The Swamp Rabbits responded with three goals in a span of 3:24 to conclude the first period with a 3-1 advantage. Bembridge tied the game at the 11:07 mark with his 13th tally of the season, and his first with Greenville. Following a bank-pass from Scott Fleming along the right boards in the neutral zone, Bembridge skated to the circle and smashed a shot off the left post and in past the blocker of netminder Jordan Ruby.

Immediately after the goal, Brampton's Jordan Henry was called for slew-footing and given a match penalty, which ended his afternoon and put the Swamp Rabbits on a five-minute power play. Rashid took advantage of the extra man and put Greenville on top just 29 seconds later when he intercepted a pass in the neutral zone, skated to the right circle and wristed a heavy shot past Ruby in a similar play to the previous tally.

Dommett also capitalized on the length power play with his third goal of the season at the 14:31 mark. The Lake Superior State University product gathered a feed from Josh Nicholls and walked to the left circle where he drilled a shot off the post and in to extend Greenville's lead. Michael St. Croix also notched an assist.

After a scoreless middle frame, the Beast stormed back with three even-strength goals in the third period to earn the win. Just 57 seconds in, Colin Murray recorded his sixth goal of the season when he pushed home Scott Jacklin's centering feed at the right post.

Seventeen seconds later, 41-year-old forward David Ling tied the game on a fortunate bounce near the Swamp Rabbits' net. From the top of the slot, Hammond elevated a heavy shot over the cross bar and off the glass that bounced right back to the side of the cage where Ling slipped it home for his second goal of the season.

Hammond capped the scoring at the 5:18 mark when he capitalized on Ling's centering feed from the corner wall for his fourth goal of the season.

Greenville finished the game 2-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. York made 28 saves in the loss, while Ruby halted 27 shots in the victory.

The Beast outshot the Swamp Rabbits 32-30.
