Hershey Bears News Release
Eric Perrin scored the game-winning, power play goal at 2:30 into overtime to give the HERSHEY BEARS a 3-2 victory over the Binghamton Senators. The win elevates Paul Fixter to the top of the list, breaking the 65 year record of Coach Herb Mitchell, who began the 1938 season with a 5-1-0-0 record. Fixter's record is now a franchise best 5-0-1-0 and counting.
For the second straight game, HERSHEY started quickly as they scored on the opening face off. Travis Brigley's third goal of the season, nine second into the game, gave the BEARS a very early 1-0 lead. The Senators would go on to score the next two goals on two straight power play opportunities to take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Evgeni Artukhin would even the score at the 8:30 mark of the second period, tipping a shot from Nikita Alexeev. A scoreless third period would lead the Senators and BEARS into overtime, tied at two.
A two minute holding penalty by Andy Hedlund would give the BEARS the advantage they would need in the overtime session. They responded to a request from Coach Fixter to achieve at least one power play goal per game. The BEARS, already 0-4 on the power play, made this one count as Eric Perrin scored at 2:30 into overtime, giving the BEARS the 3-2 victory. Perrin was named the first star of the game for the second straight contest. Peter Budaj stopped 29 of 31 shots to get the victory in net for the BEARS.
