Cujo leads Grand Rapids to AHL victory

Published on October 24, 2003 under American Hockey League (AHL) News Release

In his first appearance of a conditioning stint with the Grand Rapids Griffins, two-time NHL All-Star goaltender Curtis Joseph made 20 saves to backstop the Red Wings' affiliate to a 4-1 win over the Utah Grizzlies on Friday night. Joseph was solid in his first game action since the 2003 Stanley Cup Playoffs, but the star of the night was Jiri Hudler, the Wings' second-round pick in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. Hudler, 19, scored twice and added an assist in his AHL debut to pace the Griffins' offense. Mark Mowers and Michel Picard also scored for Grand Rapids. Jarrod Skalde put the only puck past Joseph, and it was a clean sweep for the Detroit organization, as the Wings defeated Dallas, Utah's parent club, 4-0 at Joe Louis Arena. A crowd of 8,031 watched the game at Van Andel Arena in Grand Rapids, which will host the 2004 Pepsi AHL All-Star Classic later this season.
