Jiri Hudler Assigned to Grand Rapids

Grand Rapids, Mich. - The Grand Rapids Griffins on Friday announced that the Detroit Red Wings have assigned center Jiri Hudler (YIH-ree HOOD-luhr) to the American Hockey League team. He and goaltender Curtis Joseph are both expected to be in the Griffins' lineup tonight when they host the Utah Grizzlies in a 7:30 p.m. start at Van Andel Arena.

Hudler, 19, was the Red Wings' first selection (58th overall) in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has appeared in two of Detroit's first six games this season, going scoreless while averaging 7:31 of ice time. In seven preseason appearances with the Red Wings, Hudler tied for fourth on the team with five points and ranked third with three goals.

Hudler split the 2002-03 season between Vsetin of the Czech Republic Extraleague and Ak Bars Kazan of the Russian Hockey League, totaling 52 points (20-32-52) in 41 contests. The native of Olomouc, Czech Republic, led Vsetin and finished eighth in the CRE with 46 points (19-27-46) in 30 games.
