(WILKES-BARRE, Pa., Oct. 24, 2003) - Michel Ouellet scored two of Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's three third-period goals tonight as the Penguins rallied for a 3-1 victory over the Philadelphia Phantoms at the Wachovia Arena.

Kris Beech assisted on all three goals and goaltender Andy Chiodo finished with 29 saves for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, which has won three of its last four games. The Penguins and Phantoms were opening their 10-game season series after Philadelphia captured 6-of-10 match-ups a year ago.

Rookie Nick Deschenes scored the lone goal and Antero Niittymaki registered 30 saves for the Phantoms, who extended their winless streak to four games (0-2-1-1) after winning two in a row. Philadelphia has tallied just five goals during the four-game span.

The opening period featured no scoring and just 13 combined shots, but an epic brawl in front of the Penguins bench that resulted in game misconducts for Philadelphia's Peter Vandermeer and Ian MacNeil, and Wilkes-Barre's Reid Simpson and Tom Kostopoulos.

The game remained scoreless deep into the second period until Deschenes netted his first career goal to give the Phantoms a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Wade Skolney set up the play by barely keeping the puck in the Penguins zone with a poke pass to Deschenes, who was all alone between the circles.

The left wing had time to turn around and deposit it past Chiodo with 4:28 to play in the middle stanza. It was also Deschenes' first point as a pro, as well as Skolney's first point of the season.

Wilkes-Barre evened the score 4:16 into the third - 28 seconds after Phantoms rookie Jeff Woywitka was sent off for holding the stick. Tomas Surovy tallied his fifth goal of the year during a scramble in front of the net, with assists going to Ross Lupaschuk and Beech.

Ouellet gave the Penguins the lead for good just under four minutes later when he followed in a shot from the side by Beech at the 8:11 mark. Ouellet netted his second goal of the game and third of the year with 7:32 to play when Beech's centering pass went off Skolney's skate to the right wing, who easily beat Niittymaki. Matt Murley also notched an assist on the play.

The Phantoms continue their four-game road trip on Saturday at 7:35 p.m. in Norfolk against the Admirals. Philadelphia will also travel to Albany and Hershey next weekend before returning home on Friday, Nov. 7 to face the Hershey Bears.

Phantoms Notes: Earlier in the day, Mike Peluso was recalled by the Flyers, while Peter White and Chris Therien were reassigned to the Phantoms ... Therien saw his first AHL action tonight since playing for the Hershey Bears during the 1994-95 season ... White had his four-game point streak come to an end ... Philadelphia had won in its last three visits to Wilkes-Barre.
